ABOUT THE INITIATIVE

International Association for Tamil Research (IATR)

The International Association for Tamil Research (IATR), known as the உலகத் தமிழாராய்ச்சி மன்றம், was founded in 1964 as an international academic body dedicated to the systematic study of Tamil language, literature, history, religion, philosophy and the wider cultural heritage of the Tamil people.

Its vision was to connect scholars and institutions across countries, encourage international cooperation and bring Tamil studies to a wider academic community. The eleven conferences held across different parts of the world reflect this enduring international mission.
